This monotypic genus from Brazil is a member of the iridaceae family. Related very closely too (and often confused with), Cypella, Herbertia and Tigridia. It grows to 1 metre tall, making clumps of deeply pleated, pale green leaves. During Summer it bears curiously shaped, beautiful lavender blue flowers, with yellow and russet markings, about 8cm across. The flowers like Tigridia only last a day but there is a succession of them over an extended period. Great for a full sun well drained spot.
