MAIANTHEMUM

A genus of rhizomatous perennials from North and Central America and the mountainous areas of Asia. This genus now includes the former Smilacina. Often referred to as ‘false Solomon’s Seal’ due to it’s close relation to Polygonatum. It produces a clump of arching stems with large shiny and pleated leaves. Clusters of tiny ivory-white flowers are in spikes on the ends of each stem, appearing in late spring. Small red berries are showy in late summer and autumn. May be divided carefully in early autumn, if desired. Ideal for a cool, moist, sheltered position with plenty of leaf mould. Top dress with generous amount of a blood and bone in early Spring. Prefers to be watered once a week during Summer.

Available May to August
