These members of the Araceae family are native to Southern Europe from the Mediterranean through to the Middle East. A relatively small genus that produces stemless flowers in late Summer through Autumn, many of which come before their leaves. The Arum like spathes vary in colour from deep velvety black, maroon through to yellow and cream. The accompanying spadix is often strikingly exerted. Many have the typical Araceae foetid smell, however some do have a more pleasing odour. They require a very well drained sunny position and dry Summer rest to promote flowering. A wonderful addition for any collector looking for something a little more quirky!
