A member of the Bignoniaceae family named after Pierre d'Incarville, a French missionary in China. Consisting of approximately 16 species in shades of magenta through pink and occasionally white. They are native to mostly mountainous habitats through east and central China including the Himalaya.
They are suitable to both rock gardens and borders, where they relish in a rich open humus soil, with protection from hot afternoon sun and wind. Summer moisture essential but avoid 'wet feet' when dormant in the Winter.
Commonly referred to as the 'Himalayan Gloxinia' to which their lovely blooms somewhat resemble.
