Believe it or not Cyclamen belong to the Primula family and their genus consists of about 20 species of tuberous perennials mainly from the Mediterranean region. Their name is derived from the Greek 'kyklos' meaning circular, which refers to the coiling of the flowering stem, thus taking the seed pod closer to the ground to enable germination to take place. Exceptions being C.graecum & C.persicum . [SH, NW]
