These shade loving Perennials are distributed over the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere and consist of a genus of thirty or more species. The common name “Solomon’s Seal” comes from the wax-seal like marking left on the creeping rhizome when the stem dies back. The attractive green foliage and delicate sweetly scented bell-shaped blooms hanging on arching stems make this plant a must for woodland aspects. They require a rich, moist shady spot. Remove old foliage in the Winter and top dress with one of the ‘smelly’ fertiliser ie. Blood and Bone or Dynamic Lifter. Has been used medicinally over the centuries assisting many ailments. A most underestimated perennial, they are truly beautiful.
